Many budget bookshelf speaker systems on the market will connect to your wireless network and give you reasonable to fair audio quality. But, if you want a high-quality listening experience and you’re willing to pay a little extra, Bluesound Pulse 2 gives you audiophile-quality sound coupled with a sleek design and an intuitive app. Enjoy modern convenience without sacrificing your listening pleasure.

Design 7.9

Given its $699 price tag, you’d expect the Pulse 2 to be carefully designed—and it is. Available in either classic white or black, the Pulse is minimal enough to blend in with any interior design style, yet with enough flair to have your dinner guests compliment your taste. Designed for bookshelves or countertops, the Pulse 2 is versatile and easy to use. With a solid, quality construction and a high-performance 5.25” woofer, the system will impress even the most jaded audiophile.

Software 7.5

The Pulse 2 effortlessly connects to your wireless network, all you need to do is plug it in. The Pulse generates its own network which you can connect to from any device. It will then direct you to a web page with instructions on synchronizing to your network.

Like every good sound system these days, the Pulse has its own app. If you own more than one Bluesound product, the app will let you synchronize each for the ultimate multi-room experience. The Bluesound app is intuitive and well designed, and allows you to play music directly from your Spotify, iTunes or Tidal libraries with a single click. Bluesound Pulse 2 is compatible with just about every digital filetype, however it may reveal the flaws in your old 128kbps mp3s!

Warranty 7

Bluesound Pulse comes with a one year warranty.

Performance 9

Pulse 2 is built for people who care about sound. Bluesound’s DirectDigital technology ensures that playback is lossless and glitch free with perfect CD quality. The Pulse 2 features a pair of 2.5" tweeters and a 5.25" woofer powered by an 80 watt amp. That means for a small bookshelf speaker, it can really get the party started when needed. A classy addition are the classic “bass” and “treble” controls rather than the usual run of EQ presets. But the Pulse 2 sounds so good, you’ll most likely never need to adjust the EQ.

Value 7.9

At $699, Pulse 2 isn’t the cheapest option on the market, but if you care about sound then forking out a few hundred dollars extra could be worth it. If you’re satisfied with the sound from your laptop speakers, then forget it, Pulse just isn’t for you. .
