Do online dating algorithms actually work? While there’s no clear answer to this question, some online dating sites seem to be more successful than others—see: Zoosk. Zoosk’s straightforward and very casual approach to online dating has helped to separate it from similar products like OkCupid or PlentyofFish. Zoosk’s unique, technology-driven platform is propelled by its SmartPick™ Behavioral Matchmaking System that focuses on meeting matches and making love start right now. I gave Zoosk a spin to find out for myself. I tried the site’s features against our Review Weekly dating site criteria just to see how it measures up.
Profiles 9.8
Zoosk is one of the fastest growing and most used dating sites out there with about 26 million members worldwide, which means more local matches, and an expansive user base to increase your chances of finding someone you’re interested in. Probably the coolest thing about Zoosk in regards to its profile system is that there are multiple ways that users need to verify their identity before they can begin finding matches, which means more people who actually look like their profile photos and are who they say they are.

Matching 8.9
It’s not difficult to see why Zoosk’s Behavioral Matchmaking tool has helped tens of millions of users browse compatible profiles, find true matches, and start making connections. The system focuses its attention on who you search for, how you search, and what you’re most interested in.
After understanding your online match seeking habits, past search history, and filtering preferences, Zoosk generates new matches. This means less work, more accurate matches, and an increased chance to meet someone perfect for you. In addition to its matchmaking tool, Zoosk also offers a Carousel function, which is similar to Tinder. Effortlessly swipe right or left for users you like or don’t like. Unfortunately, its Carousel tool doesn’t allow you to sort by location so local matches are harder to find using this function.
Filters 9.8
Zoosk enables you to really fine tune your search for matches with its comprehensive search and filtering system. Possible search categories include individual search terms, sorting by body type, children, religion, ethnicity, location, age, and much more. The best part about Zoosk’s search: it’ll remember your frequent searches and how you search so that when you’re ready to meet a new match, it’s already done most of the work for you. Because most users approach the site very casually, there are more uncompleted profiles which end up making the site’s search tools less effective. But, there’s always the Carousel feature which allows you to browse based on profile photos.
Communication 10
When you’ve found a match and you want to start a romance, Zoosk’s ZSMS system is key. The user-friendly communication tool makes it simple to start a conversation and arrange to meet your match. The entire site is free to all users, however when you’d like to start chatting with your best match, you’re prompted to sign up for a membership. The benefit of this is that most users who want to actually meet their matches are more invested in making the connection via chatting, so you’ll waste less time on dead-end chats and end up spending time with someone you are very compatible with.
Value 9.5
Most of Zoosk’s online site is free to all users. You can browse thousands of profiles, search for potential matches, and build your profile for $0. It offers incredible value considering other sites don’t even let you view profiles or enter the site’s network until you pay a membership premium. Zoosk charges for membership when you’d like to start chatting, and only then. There are other great tools available to users with paid memberships, like profile boosts to put more attention on you (to increase the likelihood of matches), premium ZSMS chat features, and much more.
