Hot off a vivid sexual harassment case and meeting a new rich boyfriend in Aspen, former Tinder employee Whitney Wolfe created Bumble—the dating app where women make the first move. When users match, the female user has 24 hours to send the first message, if she doesn’t then the match disappears. Once every 24 hours the male is given the option to extend one match for an additional 24 hours—but that is the only move for male users other than patiently waiting the first move from the other side.

Profiles 8

The profile customization is relatively standard. You are allowed to upload up to six pictures, add your profession, education and your location. From there you can add an additional 300-character bio to the bottom of your profile and connect your Instagram to show off additional photos.

Matching 7.2

Bumble has the standard location-based search to suggest potential matches that you can swipe left or right on. You can adjust the gender as well as the radius of your search location.

The recently added BumbleBFF feature also lets users search for non-romantic connections. BumbleBFF features Tinder-like swiping without the pressure to find a romantic match. Bumble suggests this is a new way to "find your wingman."

Filters 6.9

Unfortunately there aren’t any filters other than age range, gender and distance.

Communication 8

Communication is interesting on Bumble for heterosexual couples. The dynamic of the woman having an incentive to message first changes the conversation quite a bit. However, if you are a user seeking someone of the same sex—you’re basically just using another Tinder with a free “rewind” feature for people you’ve accidentally left swiped and an extend feature for matches just not interested in talking to you.

Value 7.1

For the heterosexual crowd looking to change things up a bit—Bumble is an invaluable new tool to meet potential partners with a new beginning. The redistribution of power in both conversation and selection creates a whole new universe of relationships that each user can choose to participate or even neglect to participate in.
