5 Underrated Horror Movies You Need to Watch

Netflix knows horror. The streaming service currently has a trove of classics like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, Halloween, The Exorcist and more. But there are also a crazy amount of other horror & slasher films on Netflix that you probably haven’t seen yet. These five underrated films aren’t talked about much. If you’re a horror fan, you can’t pass up these movies. They will keep you on the edge of your seat and wondering what will happen next…

 

 

1. Would You Rather (2013)

Director: David Guy Levy

Starring: Brittany Snow, Jeffrey Combs, Jonny Coyne

How far would you go to help the one you love? In need of cash to help her sick brother, a young woman agrees to take part in a winner-take-all game. Only thing is, this isn’t your everyday board game. This game is deadly.

As the guests arrive to a sadistic millionaire’s home for dinner, they find that they have only one thing in common: money. This movie is insane and will have you holding on for dear life. The game is simple: would you rather electrocute yourself, or the person next to you? You have fifteen seconds to choose or you will die.

 

 

2. Starry Eyes (2014)

Director: Kevin Kolsch, Dennis Widmyer

Starring: Alex Essoe, Amanda Fuller, Fabianne Therese

Everyone who moves to Hollywood dreams of making it big. That’s what attracted Sarah and her four friends to LA. This group of fame-seeking friends share the dream of becoming a Hollywood starlet. After a string of rejections, Sarah finally gets the call that will change her life forever.

Some people will sell their souls to get noticed, and Sarah is no different. She’ll stop at nothing; even if that means killing.

 

 

3. Visions (2014)

Director: Kevin Greutert

Starring: Isla Fisher, Jim Parsons, Anson Mount

Eveleigh and her husband, David, move to a vineyard to start a new life together after Eveleigh was in a deadly car wreck. Eveleigh, now pregnant, wants to start over. After moving into their new home she starts to experience visions, seeing things around the house. With her visions getting stronger by the day, and no one believing her, she must hurry decipher the meaning of her visions before it’s too late.

 

 

4. The Lazarus Effect (2015)

Director: David Gelb

Starring: Mark Duplass, Olivia Wilde, Sarah Bolger

A group of researchers developing a serum that can bring the dead back to life is forced to use it on one of their own after a deadly accident. But this new drug has some terrifying side effects that will have everyone fighting for their lives. Perhaps the dead should stay dead. This isn’t your everyday zombie movie.  

 

 

5. Hush (2016)

Director: Mike Flanagan

Starring: John Gallagher Jr, Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco

This recently released movie is a must-watch; just don’t watch it alone. Maddie is a deaf writer who retreated into the woods to work on her new book. When a masked man appears at her window, Maddie must find a way to fight for her life in silence. But just because she’s deaf, Maddie doesn’t make for easy prey. This is an outstanding movie that will make you think twice before staying home alone.
